No Free Booze for Councillors

Since being elected to Merthyr Council in 2008 Amy Kitcher has been disgusted at the amount of waste she has witnessed. Several times a year Labour and Independent councillors treat themselves to free booze and food at events that are closed to the public.

Amy thinks this is wrong and that it is time this wasteful and selfish practice was stopped.

Thanks to a proposal put forward by Lib Dem councillors in October 2007 £8,500 per year will be saved through tighter controls on the Mayor's budget. But Council failed to grasp the opportunity to reform the Mayor's hospitality account, so the free booze and food for councillors will continue.
