Amy KitcherAmy Kitcher grew up in Merthyr, living in Twyncarmel and Twynyrodyn. She attended Gellideg Junior School, Vaynor and Penyderyn High School, and 6th form at Cyfartha High School. Amy studied Modern Languages at Aston University, before going to the University of Sussex where she gained an MA in Contemporary War and Peace Studies. After university, Amy returned to live in Merthyr, where she lives with her fiancé. Amy has worked in the retail and hospitality trades, as well as in the Welsh Assembly. She now works for a national domestic abuse charity. In the May 2007 Assembly elections, Amy came a strong second - pushing Labour to their lowest vote in over a century. She is now widely seen as the only serious contender to Labour in the Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney constituency. Amy has been campaigning in Merthyr for several years. She campaigned with the Parents and Residents Against Opencast group against the contentious Ffos y Fran opencast mining scheme. She has also led local campaigns on issues such as town centre traffic congestion and parking. Amy ran the Lib Dem campaign to save services at Prince Charles Hospital, and is currently fighting Labour's Post Office closures. As well as her passion for campaigning, Amy is a keen genealogist and has a strong interest in local history.
