The Lib Dems have welcomed news that the counci lhave unanimously backed a new footbridge between abercanaid and Pentrebach

At last night's council meeting, it was unanimously agreed that the council will reinstate the footbridge between Pentrebach and Abercanaid. The bridge collapsed recently after the gas main carried by the bridge caught fire.

Local councillor for Abercanaid and Pentrebach, Kevin O'Connor, said, "I am delighted that the council have recognised how vital this bridge is to the two communities of Abercanaid and Pentrebach. I hope that a replacement can be built and installed as soon as possible. In the meantime, I will be working with the council to make sure that we can make things as easy as possible for the many local residents who depend on the bridge."

The council has provided a bus service to take parents and children from Pentrebach to Abercanaid school and is also investigating the possibility of a temporary footbridge.

Local Lib Dem spokesperson and Pentrebach resident, Amy Kitcher, added, "I would like to thank the emergency services and the council for their swift work in responding to the fire. We should be grateful that no-one was injured and that the fire did not spread to nearby houses. I hope that all the services can now pull together to get the bridge reinstated as soon as possible."
