Merthyr Lib Dems welcome publication of councillor expenses

Merthyr Tydfil Liberal Democrats have welcomed the publication of councillors annual expense claims.

Local Lib Dem spokesperson, Amy Kitcher said, "After the recent public outrage with MPs expenses I am pleased that the expenses incurred by local councillors will now be scrutinised by the public.

"People will see that the Liberal Democrat group haven't made a single claim for any additional expenses, such as travel or food.

"I hope that now the allowances have been made public, local residents will be holding their councillors to account and making them justify their claims."

Lib Dem Group Leader on Merthyr council, Kevin O'Connor, added, "The Lib Dems are completely committed to open and transparent government and we are working hard to open up Merthyr Council as much as possible."
