Amy Kitcher talks about getting young people involved in politics

Local Lib Dem parliamentary candidate, Amy Kitcher, has been interviewed by the BBC regarding her views on getting more young people involved in politics.

Speaking after the interview Amy Kitcher said, " I believe that it is important to engage young people in the political process. Decisions are made everyday that have a huge impact on our lives and it is all too easy to feel very removed from the politicians that make those important decisions.

"By talking with young people about the things that they care about and always making the effort to listen to what they have to say, we can start to build meaningful relationships with the next generation of our country's leaders. Because that what young people are at the end of the day.

"I don't think it is patronising to talk to young people in a way that appeals to them or uses mediums of communication that they are comfortable with such as Facebook and MySpace. We have to make more of an effort to engage with young people on their terms and on their issues, not ours."
