Local Liberal Democrats have welcomed a new road recycling initiative in Merthyr Tydfil. Cllr Kevin O'Connor is supporting the new project, which reuses the old road surfaces as part of the new tarmac laid down.

Cllr Kevin O'Connor said, "I am delighted that Merthyr council are leading the way in road surface recycling. In the past, Merthyr has lagged behind other councils on recycling initiatives. I am pleased that the council is becoming more keen to develop recycling, but they must keep up the good work."

The removed road surfaces will be taken to Hanson's quarry in Penderyn where they are mixed in with new material from the quarry to make new road surfaces.

Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for Merthyr Tydfil , Cllr Amy Kitcher said, "The Lib Dems are committed to recycling. We support reusing all waste material wherever possible. I hope that other councils across Wales will now look to recycle their road surfaces and that Merthyr council will invest in developing more recycling opportunities."
