Lib Dems select Nigel Hulbert to contest by-election12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 22nd Sep 2008
Merthyr Tydfil Liberal Democrats have selected local resident Nigel Hulbert to stand in the upcoming by-election for Town Ward. Nigel lives in the Thomastown area of the ward and works at Prince Charles Hospital. Nigel said, "I am delighted to have been chosen to stand for the Liberal Democrats in this election. Like many local residents, I have been impressed by the work the Lib Dems have done to deliver for local people. "I know that they are working hard to get changes on issues that really matter to local people. I want to help them build on this work." Nigel already has a strong track record of standing up for local people and making sure their voices are heard. He is Shop Steward on one of the hospital's worker's unions and now he wants to put his experience into practice on the council. In his spare time Nigel supports Merthyr Tydfil FC and is club captain at Thomastown Bowls Club. Local councillor and Lib Dem spokesperson to Merthyr Tydfil, Amy Kitcher, said, "I am pleased to welcome Nigel to our team. He lives locally in Thomastown and knows our communities well. He is committed to our local services and will campaign hard to get a fair deal for local people."
